CAROL FERRAZ

NEW YORK

ebb+flow-carolferraz

Originally from São Paulo, Brazil, Carol Ferraz developed her love affair with music at a young age and grew up listening to rock music, an influence from her guitarist brother who taught her about intelligent, artistic music from the likes of Joe Satriani, Greg Howe, Steve Vai, and bands like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. She was later exposed to the underground electronic dance music scene in Brazil, where she explored the best of techno, progressive house, and progressive psytrance as well as had the opportunity to discover unparalleled outdoor events and warehouse parties. This music genre and scene quickly became her favorite form of entertainment, and Carol immersed herself in the work of DJs, producers, and bands from which she drew inspiration: Sasha, John Digweed, Dnox and Beckers, Carl Cox, Guy J, The Orb, Orbital, Underworld, and Depeche Mode, to name a few.

Upon arriving to New York City in 2005, Carol Ferraz casually began learning how to DJ and advanced her craft to the next level in 2009 when she started a residency at the famed Sullivan Room. She became involved with the Positive Pressure parties in 2011 simultaneously, with a year of DJ residency overlap at both. Positive Pressure propelled Carol's friendship with Gavin Stephenson, who recognized her talent and precision with music and ultimately brought her along when he co-founded ebb + flow music with Iman Rizky in 2013. As a member of the ebb + flow family of artists today, Carol is a principal organizer and resident of the Sunday Reboot events, and has been instrumental in coaching others on the art of DJing. She has shared the stage with Hoj, Naveen G, Corey Baker, and her own colleagues, Justin Marchacos and Kellam, among others, and performed on the ebb + flow stage at the Gratitude Migration festival in 2015 and 2016. Revered for her technical know-how and perfectionism in mixing, Carol is masterful at blending a wide range of house rhythms - progressive house, tech house, and deep house - all together for beautifully layered and thoughtfully sequenced tracks that take you on an intense journey with every set.

Her influences include artists such as Motor City Drum Ensemble, Axel Bowman, Audiofly, HOSH, NU, Rampa, Adam Port, and Nico Stojan, among others. CHERIC

NEW YORK

Passion and consistency are the foundation of a true artist. What’s in a name or status compares not to a focused vision no matter the course of the journey. Eric “Cheric” Chen is a Queens, New York native whose vision of making music that keeps true to himself will never alter. Many artists conform to the norm and “the now,” but Cheric creates from the heart, whether he loves his work or battles the inner critic, he won’t deliver unless the music comes from his soul.

A long time native behind the New York decks, Cheric’s admired for his emotive and innovative sound, ever-changing boundaries of the norm and always delivering something new, something to make you feel good. It’s been decades since he was messing with FL Studio back in 2001-2002. “Back then it was called Fruity Loops and nothing I made was really good. I called it "sequenced noise,” the artist laughs about now. It was easy to get inspired by the energy of New York nightlife back then, the experimentation and freedom of the scene was unheard of; those who know, know. Perhaps it was catching Tony Draper live at Exit, or the early days of Sasha & Digweed, Trentemoller, and Danny Tenaglia that changed Cheric’s views on music and awoke the artist within. Around 2009 Cheric began taking his music making seriously. He was determined to build from the ground up and admits his struggles with self-representation, finding time to produce, and trying to make a name for yourself in a competitive, cut-throat city like New York, but his drive and determination deterred not. Consistency, drive, patience, and absolute appreciation for the art of music has carried him great lengths.

It all changed the day his now great friend Charles Meyer discovered him for Insomniacs Discovery Project. Their relationship has been one of true musically driven passion that only continues to grow. “I love everything about the music. I am in it for the art and nothing else, I would love to be able to do this full time, but I am content otherwise,” the artist shares. It’s that love and determination that’s landed Cheric gigs at some of New York’s premiere stages, as well as California, China, and the Groove Cruise. He's opened for some of the world’s top artists including Andrew Bayer, Eric Prydz, Armin Van Burren, and Cristoph at The Brooklyn Mirage, Oliver Koletski, Hernan Cattaneo, and closing for Eli and Fur, plus countless solo gigs. He’s never not making music, sharing music, or playing live.

Cheric’s music explores the subtle and expansive natures of dance music and that’s landed him original releases and remixes on Click Amsterdam, Cinematique (Manual Music), Baroque, and Box4Joy (Incepto). His remix of Bella Mer’s “Loaded Gun” gained much praise for it’s deep, hypnotizing, progressive soundscape and the story behind it. "Loaded Gun is about the tendency to be drawn toward harm and a desire for danger... a moth to the flame. A world in which every archetype points a loaded gun at each others' heads in judgment and blame." Something many of us can relate to.

Other respected originals that move fellow artists and listeners are “Apparition” and “Qvago” on Cinematique, “The Fallen” on Click, and his latest melodic gem, “Zoo Hypothesis” on Box4Joy, a track that takes you on an uplifting, euphoric exploration of mood and sound. Keep an ear out for his latest work, a remix for Bella Mer's "Bedroom Eyes" dropping on December 10th, 2019.

With the inner voice telling him to keep focus and stay on the grind, Cheric continues to progress forward as a true artist. An artist who accepts difficulties and successes all the same in order to manifest his vision, of making music that keeps true to oneself.

GAVIN STEPHENSON

NEW YORK

Gavin Stephenson grew up influenced by an eclectic range of music spanning from the Beatles and Led Zeppelin to the Clash and the synth pop of the '80s.  When he discovered dance music in the late '90s, it all came together and took off from there.  Gavin has been involved in dance music since he started DJing and produced his first party in 1998.  He was the resident and a co-founder of the Spectra and Positive Pressure parties in New York City.  By 2003, Gavin was DJing both stateside and internationally, with stops all over the U.S. and Europe, in Canada, Central America, South America, and North Africa.  Between 2004 and 2006, he traveled throughout the U.S. and Europe playing as a label DJ for the Swedish dance label, Digital Structures.

In 2013, Gavin Stephenson became one of the founders of ebb + flow music, an NYC-based production company known for some of the best underground parties in the scene with consistent high quality music and an undeniably contagious vibe.  As an ebb + flow resident, Gavin graces the crowd with funky bass lines, deep grooves, and forward-thinking music in every one of his sets.  His ability to read the crowd and give it the necessary energy to thrive is a trademark of the musical journeys that he creates.  During the summer of 2014, Gavin took his love of dance music to another level with collaboration on music production with Justin Marchacos and ebb + flow co-founder, Iman Rizky.  Their work together spawned Second Format, a trio which has been producing tracks with driving bass lines and catchy, danceable hooks.  Track releases are slated to come out early this year on Cityfox and beyond.

IMAN RIZKY

NEW YORK

IMAN RIZKY was bred on house beats from the early '80s and '90s.  His relationship with dance music back then was a transcendental experience every weekend at places like New York City's Red Zone, the Tunnel, Limelight’s Disco 2000, the Sound Factory, and the legendary Twilo.  Iman became a promoter for the Tunnel, Limelight, and the Palladium during the club scene era of the late '80s.  His immersion in the heyday of club culture in NYC prompted the pursuit of his true life-long passion of DJing. With his extensive knowledge of dance music from both participation and promotion, he was able to cultivate a unique DJ sound to call his own.  As the club scene era wound down and the dance music scene went underground in the early 2000s, Iman formed the party production group, Ku-Deta, which put together events stateside as well as internationally.  Around the same time, he started his weekly DJ residency at SEA in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where he continues to play on Fridays and Sundays.

Ku-Deta provided a precursory template for ebb + flow music, an NYC-based production company that Iman Rizky founded with Gavin Stephenson in 2013. The underground parties of ebb + flow music have brought consistent high quality music and an undeniably contagious vibe to the dance music scene. As an ebb + flow resident, Iman's DJ sets are laden with minimal groovy beats layered with melodic sounds that build in a cycle of high peaks and low valleys. He takes the crowd on a thrilling roller coaster ride of music that elevates the mind, moves the body, and satisfies the soul. In the summer of 2014, Iman took ebb + flow to another level with collaboration on music production with Justin Marchacos and Gavin Stephenson. The trio became Second Format and has been producing tracks with driving bass lines and catchy, danceable hooks. Justin and Second Format's Giants EP was released on the Cityfox label and charted in the Top 10 on Beatport within its first week.

His constant motivation, desire to please and ability to bring people together to enjoy great music have made him one of the most respected and innovative DJs of today’s music scene.  He has shared spots alongside world class artists including 16BL, Akiko Kiyama, Alexi Delano, Atish, Audiofly, Behrouz, Bill Patrick, Budakid, Butane, Camea, Charles FeelGood, Corey Baker, Clarian, Clint Stewart, Dave DK, Dave Seaman, Dance Spirit, DAVI, David Hohme, Deep Jesus, Derek Plaslaiko, Dimitri Nakov, DJ Three, Doc Martin, Echonomist, Einmusik, Elif, Elias Dore, Embrz, Francois K, Jim Rider, Jon Charnis, Joyce Munez, Gab Rhome, Hoj, Hernan Cataneo, Italoboyz, Jamie Jones, Jay Tripwire, Jozif, Justin Marchacos, Kate Simko, Lemurian, Luca Bachetti, Luis Diaz, Marques Wyatt, Matt Tolfrey, Mark Ashken, Mark Slee, Mightykat, Mike Khoury, Mikey Lion, Maxi Storrs, Miyagi, MyMy, Nico Stojan, Nikita, Ninetoes. KINNER G

NEW YORK

Born and raised in France, KInner G, a.k.a Guillaume, was always fascinated by the way music, nature and the mind interact in strange ways. This led him far off the beaten path : playing at raves in the bucolic french countryside, next to monks in the Himalayas, or all the way on top of the art cars of Burning Man. In 2014 he co-founded Atlantis as an experiment to use electronic music and dancing to naturally enhance your senses.

Expect very melodic and uplifting deep/tech-house, with some occasional goose bumps.

His first vinyl release arrived in 2004 on New York’s Sifted Recordings; since then, he’s worked hard in the studio to compile a sizeable discography that consists of four full-lengths and many more EPs, shared between labels including Tip Tap Records, Tzinah Records, and Archipel —the latter of which will also release his Esoterica album in 2017. He is also beginning to DJ in clubs across Europe, having refined his skills playing at smaller venues and after-parties in New York city, just a few hours from his birthplace of Connecticut. In addition to this, he has performed at Montreal’s Piknic Electronic and Berlin’s Love Parade.

Production, however, has remained his focus during much of this period, and it is only now that he feels ready to bring his studio sound into the club environment. Check out his more recent releases and it’s easy to spot the evolution of his groove-based sound into more abstract territories; indeed, it’s no coincidence that tracks like “365” and “Sway” were supported by some of the world’s leading selectors. While maintaining a warm and melodic feel, often with a strong bassline and dreamy elements, his productions range from house and techno to more breakbeat cuts with fragmented vocals and elements of pop. As a result, it’s hard to place Casanova in any single genre—though you can often identify one of his tracks when you hear it.

As a DJ, too, Casanova aims to meld various styles to construct different moods—and his exceptionally smooth 2016 XLR8R podcast is a perfect demonstration of his talents in blending woozy, meandering states with an irresistible groove. Many of his earlier bookings came either early or late in the night, allowing him the freedom to delve into the more experimental realms of his record collection; but he loves to play harder sounds when required.
